Does the dealler REALLY do the scheduled maintenance they purport to do?
I recently purchased a new '03 LS430 and sold my '99 LS400.
It was completely dealer maintained for all of it's 70,000 miles.
The purchaser of the LS400 is delighted with the car, BUT told me that the air exchange filter had NEVER been changed.
To quote his eMail: "The air filter for the cabin air has never been
changed. It was black and covered with pebbles and dust. The tape from original manufacture was still on the filter when I removed it from the lower glove compartment"
This filter SHOULD have been changed about every 10,000 miles,
according to my LS430 manual.
Is this a problem with Lexus dealers, that they say and charge for
scheduled maintenance items, but don't do them?
I'm still deciding on how to discuss this with the dealer..... If
true, I should at least ask for a refund for the filters that were
never installed, but beyond that, I'm concerned that this will just be swept under the rug and that the practice will continue.....

Different but Same
On the same note, I wanted to add that I have a 1992 LS400 180K miles and a 1995 MB S420 70K miles, both superb cars and dealer maintained until I purchased them. I checked the maintenance records on them and both cars did not show any engine air filter change, no record of spark plug change, and get this, the oil in the Lexus was always changed with Coastal 10W30, cheap crap, and the manual and engine says 5W30. The oil in the MB has always been Kendall 10W30, more cheap crap. Don't you think after all the hype behind these cars and their service, the dealers would put "credible" oil in them, especially at the ridiculous charge they enforce??? I am just baffled. And I am surprised the previous owners put up with it!!!! I'll never take my car to a dealership, unless its the final straw. The dealers were Lexus of Glenview, IL, and Gurley Leep Motorwerkes in Mishawaka, IN.
Dealers = Drug Dealers
Dealers = Drug Dealers

I have my car serviced by a service tech who works at Lexus of Highland Park, IL. He does the work on the side for 1/2 the price the dealer charges. I know he does the complete service because I've watched him servicing my cars. He uses Penzoil unless I specify otherwise. The only problem is that the services aren't documented in the computer, so some dealers may give you problems if you trade in the car. But I kept my receipts so the dealer was ok with it.

if i were you, i would go back to the dealer and bring up the issue.
they owe you at least 7 cabin filter changes. and at 40 bucks a filter, they owe you $280 in filter charges and thats not counting the labor they probably charged you.
