Default weird issue with multi display..

few weeks ago i turned it on and it was saying i have brake wear..strange because the pads have at least 50% left. next time i turned it on it was fine.
over last few days had the battery unhooked, todya hooked it up, and same thing said i had brake wear. (ive had the battery unhooked lots of times and this never happened). Also it said it was 7km since last reful (its been 300+)...any ideas?

Also the telescoping steering wheel stopped coming out automatically but it works manually?

Have you checked your pad wear sensors? Usually that's a sign of them getting ready to go even though you said there's still 50% left. To check the telescoping wheel just set a new position in the memory and see if it adjusts when you put the key in the ignition.

I had to do the new position thing on mine when I bought it so it maybe that. Also, the 4 or 5 times it gotten over 90 degrees before I got my sunshade, mine wouldn't adjust up down in or out until the AC cool the interior of the car down some.

If saving a new steering wheel position doesn't work, I'm guessing something like the ignition tumbler/switch is going if the auto-tilt feature still doesn't work, but manual does. Try shifting and holding the key in different positions in the ignition when you put it in. If it suddenly starts working, you found the problem, if it doesn't then that doesn't mean that it's not the problem, just means you need to do more testing.

Not sure what you mean with the reful...

As far as the pad sensor goes. If you or the PO change the brakes and didn't replace the sensors with new ones an put the old sensors back in, they could simply be crumbling and starting to short out over bumps/vibrations.

Actually, the brake wear sensors activate the warning light (turn it ON) when they are open, not shorted.
When the pads wear, the two wires (which are connected in a loop at the tip) contact the rotor which grinds the tip off and they become disconnected. That's why they need to be replaced once they show the warning light.
I imagine that it might be possible to restore the connection at the tip, but have not heard of anyone here doing that.
Of course, you can remove the sensors and short the wires at the connector. That will turn off the light, but will also disable the warning function.

Odd, I could have sworn I had to cap the wires on my 96 individually and not join them....

I seem to remember a thread of some months ago by a member who had actually shorted the wires together to turn off the light. He was not concerned with disabling the warning function because he was careful about checking the pads frequently. Anyway, I am certainly open to correction if wrong.

You def have to close the circuit by twisting or soldering the wires together to make the pad wear light go off.
