For my -91 next set of summer tyres will be either
- Michelin Energy Saver
- Continental Premium Contact 5
- Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance

For a -98 I would consider these as well.

The problem with Kumho tires is their tread wear rating is *****, and they are noisy as hell. I have a set of brand new ones on my wifes car, and it sounds like a damn jet when your going 45mph and the highway is so much worse. The Kia doesnt have much noise insulation, so the worse the tire, the more I have to hear about it.

for the record. Kumho Solus (we call the Soul-less around these parts) have a tread wear of 780. So if you need to suddenly lock up the tires on non-abs or anything, better start praying! My buddy had them on his miata, and a light turned yellow, and he hit the brakes and slid half way into the intersection. IN A MIATA... at 40mph. I got those tires for free for my BMW lol

yokohama has a tire mad with orange peel rubber. Wanted to get them for my LS but didn thave the size I required. treadwear of 600, traction A, etc quiet. This is all just what I heard from a fellow, no personal accounts.

What is the best / most affordable type and brand to get? I have no clue about best brands nor how much I should expect to pay. I don't have a lot of money and can't stand being taken advantage of.

Should I get H or V rated tires? I don't see myself going over 110 mph ever under any circumstance.
I still say go with the Michellin in a H rating since your not worried about speed. I got them from Sears a couple years back for 300+ installed.

Looks like Michelin is the most popular choice, so I guess I'll just go with them. Did the car come stock with H rated?

The car came stock with V rated tires since the cars top speed is 149mph.
I find over the 15 years I've owned my 98 the Michelin is the best for ride, quietness, wear and performance. Tire rack has the mxv4 for 172 a tire, V rated.

The H rated ones are a little cheaper option though and you should be fine with those if your not pushing higher speeds regularly.

H Rated tires will be fine at 150mph, its just that V rated tires are rated to go 150mph for an hour straight.

Less tread wear rating usually stickier rubber etc. If you live in USA tires are cheap, Tire Rack and you can get some great name brand tires for very reasonable prices, enjoy! in Canada they bend us over bad...all my tires are used!
