Default 253k miles on original timing belt! Beat That!

Just learned that my project 93 LS with 253k miles is running on the original timing belt. I am nearly certain of this since I spoke with second owner who owned it since 45k and 1997. He said he never had the timing belt or water pump serviced, no reason for him to lie in THAT direction! LOL

Since it was on my to do list anyway and its a restoration project, I do not mind but DAMN!

Anyone heard of a car going longer on the original belt rated at 90k miles?!

That's a really long time...personally I wouldn't risk it, but does speak to the engineering and reliability of these cars. Gotta love'em.

i had cracks at 131k as shown below. when i removed the belt, i was confident it would not break anytime soon as it is internally reinforced. what makes a timing belt fail is usually the idler or tensioner bearing which seizes and causes too much heat and deteriorates the belt! i wouldn't mind delaying a belt change on a UCF10 since it's a non-interference engine. anything after cannot be overlooked.

I took a look at mine and it looks to be in pretty good shape. I may snap a picture if I think about it this weekend.

i got my lexus ucf20 at 162k and ran a carfax and the car was caming from nebraska and have 6 owners prior to me and im the 7th owner... car fax said at 90k it said regular maintainent perfomed... so i thought it had replace the timing belts already... and until i purchased it ..when i got it at 167k and now it at 171k and i check the timing belt and it look like it been changed and the belt look super slick and new... and i was kinda worried that it didnt get change... but the way these car reliability ,.. no one speeding down the road going at crazy speed that is enought to snap the belt..... so i might replace it at 180 or 190k ..

PS... ucf20 engine is non interferent or else

95-00 are all interference engines, hence the extra horse power over the 90-94 models among other things.

Our 91 LS has 122K miles and we have no idea other than "belt looks good"

But since its non interference and were broke teenagers why fix it until its needed?

8/10 times that timing belt snaps are on cold starts haven't heard of it going on to many people while driving

Pretty sure they were non interference up till 1997. The 1uz really didn't change at all from 90 to 97. In 98 it gained VVT-I and became interference.

He's wrong.

'95 got significant head changes (upped compression).
Known fact, '95+ LS400s, '96+ SC400s are interference.
