Default Lost 91 Keys

First off i would like to start off and say i don't own a lexus yet.. i am an inspiring lexus owner..

but anywho. i have been searching and looking for the info on this and come up with multiple conflicting answers.

I am looking at buying a 1991 Lexus LS400 but the owner said he lost the keys. from what i have found searching via google is that you either have to go to a locksmith and get it cut, or go to lexus with your title and ID to get them to cut you a key.. also seen people saying the 91 didn't have the immobilizer or transponder so just get a non transponder key cut and you're golden. have also seen people saying you need a new key and a new ecu so its in registration mode.

So i kinda want to sort this out if the 91 really has a immobilizer or if i can just buy a key and have it laser cut.

Go to the dealer with the vin. The 91 doesn't have a transponder. Only thing is you wont have keyless entry.

Just bring proof of ownership to dealership and they can cut you new ones for $50.00. I think if you want new ones with the chip to work the keyless entry they run close to 300.00 with clublexus discount.

I recommend passing on this car if the owner isn't willing to spend his own money to get just one key. Sounds fishy.

Trust me i have debated that i have my eyes on other LS400s this one is just cheap and a easy fix.. but whose to say that it doesn't have some hidden issue and he "lost" the keys on purpose

He probably also lost the title papers too. That car has you in a spot, no way to verify if it will run and no test drive either. Tell him you "lost interest."

Unless the price is less than I could sell it to a salvage, I wouldn't buy that car.
