Default Anyone know the transmission drain plug size / pitch?

Had a stripped drain plug issue, had to pull the pan full of fluid, luckily I got to use a lift at school and kept the mess to a minimum.

Just wondering if anyone has the major diameter and thread pitch of the plug,

I will be tapping oversize, or if needs be welding a nut on the pan and using a bolt through that.

i would just drill/tap to the next size up, since you've got hte pan off anyway.

I was going to suggest we make a sticky list of ALL possible bolts, and their pitch/length and so on...

I got a new transmission pan on Ebay $156. My bolt seals for now, but turns and wouldn't come out. My pan also has a couple dents and I decided to get a new one.

sorry I don't have a note of the bolt specs, but I can tell you that at least on my '91, the plug is not magnetic for a good reason: There is not enough depth for the magnet inside the pan. (and there are 4 big magnets on the floor of the pan anyway)

The threads on my pan were a little stripped when I got it (blame it on the dealer or the occasional jiffy lube used by the PO). I considered tapping to a bigger size and using a generic magnetic drain plug. But I noticed the interference problem I mentioned above. So I just got a new Lexus drain plug (shallow, not magnetic), cleaned up the threads a little, and torque it down ever so carefully.
