Default The number 3 (light) on the gear indicator stays on no matter what gear its in.

I just bought a 1995 LS400 last week with 158,200 mi and on the way to work this morning I noticed the number 3 was lit up next to the D on the dash which is what the shifter was in when I was on the Freeway doing 70 and noticed the RPM's were at 3100. When I got to work I put the car in park and the 3 is still lit up as well as is the P for park? This has never happened before.
It would also seem to me that 3100 RPM is high if the O/D was working doing 70. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

looks like you got a short man... the dash indication shifting points are wire directly to the plug on the passenger side transmission. the plug is white grayish. if you look at the wiring diagrams those wires are wire back to the passenger kick panel then connected to the body harness that flows to the combination meter (cluster). i would start from the cluster back to those connecter and check continuity.
