Gearbox shifts, engine response and economy lights
Hi,
I run a 1994 LS400 with 336000kms on the clock.
I recently serviced it and it runs perfect, apart from a couple of issues.
Because I had the battery disconnected, I followed instructions on this forum to re-learn the gearbox. Plus did the mod of adjusting the gearbox change cable.
Now shifts perfectly.
But problem one. If I accelerate with the kick down switch engaged from standing, there is a huge hesitation before changing gear.
Problem two, is the engine seems to feel like it has the equivalent of turbo lag.
Very slow to pick up, then from 3500 on, it pulls just as if a turbo was fitted.
Could all this be a leaking capacitor problem in the ECU I have read about.
Apart from that, gas mileage is very good, idle is 650 when warm, starts first time every time hot or cold.
My one last question. I have all the manuals and data from the Toyota tech website, have googled and googled but cannot find any information on the economy meter in the dash pod.
I have one yellow (led?) that lights when I give throttle and thats it. Should there be a green and red also? Does anyone have any details on this meter. It is definitely factory.

Mine had that "lag" feeling when I was using the cheapest 87 gas I could find. Changed to a name brand fuel and a higher octane and that "lag" feeling went away. Have you also checked the trans. fluid?

Over here I am using 95 octane. There is 98 available, maybe I should try that.
The trans fluid is the correct level and looks good, although I plan to change it and clean the filter.
I recently serviced the car with new plugs, checked the wires and they were okay.
Full synthetic 5w30 oil, new oil filter, air filter and fuel filter.
I also cleaned out the throttle body as it had the usual 2mm of carbon build up on the throttle plate.
