A dealer told me that they would charge me $250 for a new key? However, you can get the Lexus keyfob and blank key online for about $100, someone help me out!

I'm in Chicagoland.

Do you still have the Old key? If so you can buy a blank uncut key and the internal off the net and the dealer can cut it for 30-40 dollars but you will have to use the instructions in the FAQ at the top of the forum to program it.

I just got two new master keys from Sewell, one with remote buttons and one without, precut and delivered for $250 using the club discount. If you want OEM Lexus keys I think that's the best deal around.

sounds like the "standard" dealer cost. better off buying online as has been mentioned.

You can get a cut key for 19 dollars at eBay with your key code if you lost your key code you can get it at the dealer for free by showing them your title.

If you are talking about a key fob then it depends if you have your master key fob and you are looking for an additional replacement

If you lost your master key fob get this and then go get raped at the dealer

Do a search because I remember reading someone who did there programming and rebooting that posted on one of these forums (may not be the LS forumn since the othe lexuses use the same systems)

Find someone like this in your area

$250 is about what I paid a few months ago at the local Lexus dealer when I thought I had lost my master key and then found that my wife had lost hers and never told me. But I at least had a third master key as a backup in a fireproof safe. I don't mess around when I'm down to one key.

I did verify that, if I didn't have one master key to use to program a new one, that the program is still in place under which I could get a one-time replacement of the ECU if I bought two master keys at the Lexus dealer.

My "lost" master key turned up a few days later. So ... I'm back in business with three master keys with one of them being back in the safe.

This only becomes complicated when you overload the system with too many programmed keys.

Last keys I bought for a 2001 LS I paid less than $20.00 for & he was able to reproduce them with just a cell phone picture. Then switched existing FON remote electronics over.

Well If the OP still has a working master and it is just broke I would go with the link that sam provided.

Kansas you are confusing me. You can only have one master key programmed to your ecu the rest can not be used as master keys because the ecu only recognizes one key as the master key (I should say one fob) so I hope you have that one in your lock box.

I think you folks may be a little shocked at how few different key distinctions there are for a given model & year. Then your comfort level would really go down when you learned there were even less specific distinct remote codes.

There is finally a solution to the Lexus broken key problem!! The best replacement on the market is called the Eternity Key. The others break and its costly to replace over and over. The Eternity Key is made of military grade materials, stronger than anything on the market, and has a lifetime warranty. Available at Lexus dealers or see www.eternitykey.com for dealers.
