Talking just got a 95 ls400

Just cant leave it stock so the 5 speed is under way.
i picked up a is300 manual transmission. Sold the 1jz bell housing.
Bought a adapter for 1uz to w58 (TV8). Extended the shifter back 4+inches. (my fabrication experience)
Got a pedal at pick a part from an 83 toyota pickup master cyl from JEGS ( wilwood)
Project near completion very clean factory look through out!
Didnt have to move the fuse box well...(just a little), booster or e brake!
Easy swap so far cant wait to roll!!!

Are you crazy? Modifying a perfectly good LS in this fashion?

I like it!!
Take the time to document with photos if you can.

Thumbs up

These are photos of the shifter extention. I had to move it back 4 1/2" to catch the original shifter hole. (For the record we hit the hole dead center!) A bearing was added to catch the extra load the shaft would inherit being extended. Not an expensive upgrade but well worth it. Shifting is very smooth.

Transmission is now in! Drive shaft ,Wiring and exhaust left.
Also have to relocate the body control module/computer to another location as it originally mounted where the clutch pedal and fuse box go. 50 wires im weighing in on relocating the bcm or relocate the e-brake??? Any takes on this... has anyone put the e-brake from a SC300/400 on an LS400?

Right on. As far as I know this will be the first second gen that I have seen with a manual transmission. I own a gold 96 that I am also working on converting to manual, but decided to go KA/SR tranny as this would be the most inexpensive option (also afford me the opportunity to go 6 speed in the future as well). It's good to know the shifter extension was only 4 1/2 inches as opposed to the 7 inches needed for the first gen swap. I'm guessing the engine sits about 2 1/2 inches further back on the 2nd gen chassis. Keep us posted on the process you use in eliminating CEL's for this conversion, I imagine it's going to be similar to the first gen's considering your vehicle is still OBD1. Congratulations on your progress thus far

I am also interested in seeing how you mounted that clutch pedal to the firewall. I was fortunate to find an LS without TRAC, as I know the location of this system will be an obstacle in mounting the clutch master cylinder. So far it seems the most complicated/frustrating part of this procedure, is the clutch pedal choice/mounting location. Other than that, this is a pretty straight forward swap.

Wink

Clutch pedal was easy! As said earlier i used a 83 toyota p/u pedal with a wilwood 3/4" master cyl. The car was pretty much ready for it. There is a wire harness in the corner with a white plastic protector around it. I removed the plastic and wrapped the harnes with tape then took some fuel line pieces and split them on one side and slipped them over the sharp edges on the pedal assembly bracket. Note that harness stays above the assembly remove the pedal from its bracket and push it up high as possible and mark your fire wall to be drilled. You must drill from inside the car!
No need to remove the dash or the brake booster! The factory toyota pedals are offset and will locate the assy. High in the corner with wires above. SOOOWEEEEEET! I had to trim a little off the bracket to miss the parking brake but did not move it! Only remove the knee bolster! Fuse box and body control to get started. Fuse box will go back in roughly the same location. Body control ...another story...lol
ill keep you updated. I might have to extend those wires to move it to another location all together but not sure yet. Will know better this weekend.
FRANKLY!!! IT WAS EASY!
ANY QUESTIONS JUST ASK...
THIS IS A GREAT SITE!!!
MORE PICS COMING!
