Wife told me yesterday day that the tail light malfunction indicator has lit up on the dash, and when she got home I tested all the lights, the left brake light's not working.

Anyone happen to know the part# and procedure for changing tail light bulbs on the '97 LS400? I won't have access to the car until tonight and I want to pick up the bulbs sometime during today....

I think the bulb you need is 1157 but for I am not sure. Either that or 7443.

Which light housing, the one on the trunk or fender? Most likely it's the fender since that's the one prone to go usually.

Open the trunk, remove the two plastic covers over the screw in the lower part of the drain channel then unscrew those, inside your trunk remove the lining a bit and I believe there is 2 or 3 screws or nuts that you have to undue in order to pop out the bulb. I did mine like six months ago or so. Whole thing should take like 20 minutes or so.

If you decide to remove the housing becareful cause it is also held in with plastic prongs that snap into place.

It turned out to be a bad brake light in the trunk lid, part # 7443. It was very simple to change, although I question the use of a phillips head screw to keep the mounting bracket in place. I would think a thumb screw or something that doesn't require a tool would be a better method, especially if one had to change a bulb out while on the road.

I bought two packages of bulbs, so I have plenty of spares now.
