Just got my UCA at amazon. I was going to order dorman, but they were around $160 everywhere I looked, so I ordered Raybestos, for $102:
http://www.amazon.com/Raybestos-502-1200-Professional-Control-Assembly/dp/B004J8AEVO/ref=au_pf_ss_14?ie=UTF8&Make=Lexus|75&Model=LS400|1003&Year=1990|1990&carId=001&n=15684181&s=automotive http://www.amazon.com/Raybestos-502-1200-Professional-Control-Assembly/dp/B004J8AEVO/ref=au_pf_ss_14?ie=UTF8&Make=Lexus|75&Model=LS400|1003&Year=1990|1990&carId=001&n=15684181&s=automotive
Free shipping too. Ordered both left and right, even though it is my right that is more of a problem, but I hear one should change these in pairs so... (is that really true? what if I only bought the right one, would it be impossible to align or something?)
And then I see this little note:
"Usually ships within 1 to 2 months. "
I am thinking that it cannot be two months, I mean, its not like these are custom made by 12 virgins and then delivered by sherpas... So I will keep you posted how quickly I got them and how the installation went. Wish me luck

OK, just checked with amazon again, and it says the UCA will arrive some time in June.
So I cancelled the order.
Will be ordering dorman from rockauto, unless someone knows of a better deal elsewhere. Currently they are around $165 ea on rockauto.

Rockauto has the Raybestos UCAs i believe. Last time I checked Raybestos for some reason had the same part number for 90-94 and 95+.

I just purchased a pair of dorman uca off Amazone for 345.60 shipped to US address, hand carried to VN. it says made in Taiwan. will get them in today and post some pix and comments.

Amazon.com: Dorman 520-459 OE Solutions Upper Left Front Control Arm: Automotive Amazon.com: Dorman 520-459 OE Solutions Upper Left Front Control Arm: Automotive

I got them replaced yesterday and result was amazingly good. my car is back to new again :-). it took them less than 2 hours including wheel re-alignment to replace 2 UCAs, 2 outer rod ends, 1 inner rod end (passenger side). everything fits well and the car is back "as smooth as silk" :-)

I installed new Dorman UCAs and Raybestos (professional grade) LBJs (for 2nd gen LS400 on my 1st gen LS). They are both perfect in every respect - they've been on my car for three months now, and the car really improved - has that "new car" feel to it when driving/steering.

Default UCA's - in my opinion, ALL of them are made by the same Taiwan manu. plant

jollyczar you are absolutely spot on, if you view the UCA's from each co., Moog, Medvotech, acdelco, and etc., you will see that they all have the exact same design and look EXACTLY alike. I was fooled by Medvotech because their photos looked different from the rest and they have a lifetime guarantee, but guess what? I just received them today and they look IDENTICAL to Moog, ACDelco, Dorman, and the rest of them. I was angry because they looked nothing like the photo and discription they'd post on the Rockauto website. I am now convinced that they all are made in Taiwan, same UCA but different Co. names (and prices) stamped on them. They may had in the past been made in Canada or somewhere else, but not anymore. So I caution members that you may think you're getting something different or better than the rest, but I don't think that's the case. Your choice is the dealer or made-in-Taiwan aftermarket. I don't even think the dealer makes them anymore in Japan, especially after 5 yrs of each model year. Here's another valuable tip, if you install them yourselves, make sure you thoroughly grease the boot surface that makes contact with the steering knuckle for BOTH uca and lbj, as well as the tierods, failure to do so will prematurely tear up your boots and ultimately the joints. Maintaining the boots are extremely important on these parts because they rub back and forth on metal surfaces every time you turn the steering wheel. I've lightly sanded the metal surfaces, cleaned and coated them with silicone spray before I installed the jts and boots with ample amount of grease between the boot and metal surface. I hope this helps. Good luck.

"Made-in-Tiawan" is not a bad thing per say. You do realize about 80-90% of the things you used daily are made in china/India/tiawan/etc... And it is not uncommon for multiple brands to use the same source/plant for parts or a similar if not identical design for their parts. When you are engineering something from an existing basic design, there are only one or two ways to design something that is structurally sound and cost effective.

This is a fundamental law of manufacturing.

If you have issues with the parts you bought, return them.

I agree schmee, it's the way of the world, I totally realize the outsourcing business. My point was as it related to uca's, they're most likely the "same" item, regardless what name brand you see on them. Whether there are different specs used in the manu. process is another matter, however Medvotech does offer a lifetime guarantee, I would think they wouldn't stand behind it unless the item met their specs, we shall see. I will report back on the status of the uca's as we go forward, and if they hold up I will be the first to commend them. Medvotech talks a good game let's see if they back it up. As I've also mentioned, it's highly unlikely many oem parts are still made for my 20 yr. old LS400, the next best thing is an aftermarket item of good quality, and yes, even if they're made in Taiwan.
