For lug engagement you basically want it to be the thickness or more of the stud. So getting 10 turns is a conservative amount. Thread pitch X turns.
PD's suggestion is check length relative to your spacer application. The H&R with built-in studs is a top choice. There are makers of custom spacers as well if you want a thickness between what HR offers.

I have always told customers you need at LEAST 7 complete turns which is enough for casual street use. If they plan on anything more than A->B->A type of driving they want more. For track and AutoX I always suggested at least the diameter of the stud, and preferable full engagement on the nut with extra stud left over!
That said, I have AutoX'ed on 7 threads and needed to replace my lug nuts after... In part was due to my "light weight racing lugs" aluminum construction!
