Default spark plugs and issue

So what is the best or which plugs have you guys found to work the best?
I just did plugs and wires bc my 93 was missing at idle every now and then... now it has a severe miss while accelerating.. I pulled iridiums out of it, and put in double platinum which is oem.. wires are correct and plugs gapped right.. what else should I look at? How much of a pain in the *** is it to change the cap and rotor?

It's really not that bad at all. I had a miss a about a year ago and went through all that plus coils and it turned out to be some wires that were rubbing against the serpentine belt.

the difference in different NGK or Denso plugs will not make enough difference in how it runs for you to notice, but I would stick with those two brands only.

you need to replace caps, rotors, and those 21 year old wires - these jobs are not difficult if you have basic mechanic skills and more importantly, good attention to detail and focus

for caps and rotors, make sure to use the real genuine Toyota parts, you can buy them at many dealerships online at a 25% discount such as Sewell Lexus, Lexus of South Atlanta, Lexus Parts now, etc.

on wires, NGK or Denso from amazon or rockauto.com online sources are your best deal

and do a scan of your codes using the procedure here, in case there is an issue beyond just a tune-up

oems are iridium, not double electrode plats.

Arn't the double, triple, and quad electrode plugs just marketing BS?


I have a general understanding of how electricity works and IMO the spark is going to jump from whatever electrode has the least resistance.

Its not going to split into 2,3, or 4 seperate sparks.

correct me if I am wrong.


I would always run whatever the factory used.

pretty much. Even the Bugatti Veyron uses standard-ish single electrode iridium plugs.

well then it probably had factory stuff in it.. i changed the plugs and wires when i went in just bc i was already there..
I'll look into the cap and rotor, the wires that would hit the belt have already been addressed when i first got the car bc the ECU went out.. but with a new ECU plugs and wires, I'm gonna change the cap and rotor and maybe coils.. i have the mechanic skill just not the patiance hence why i run a shop and not work on vehicles anymore!! lol

The miss could be from something as simple as you missed the tip of the plug with the boot or you bumped the electrode of the plugs when putting them in closing the gap a bit.

and I seriously doubt you got a new $2300 ECU - you got a new-to-you ECU, and Lord knows what's inside of it!

Ohm out the coils...check the connectors on the coils....
