really bad oil smoke at cold start
Over last 2 weeks i noticed the car stunk really bad of burning oil when i start it up in the morning. I do not recall it doing this before. I mean my whole garage will get hazed up during those first few second sof it running. Im going to change the pcv valve. I dont think valve seals would let go all of a sudden like that. From nothing to BOOM blue smoke.
Power steering level is fine and does not go down.
I pulled the pcv valve hose off and it was gummy in there. Maybe PCV valve is gummed up as well?

most likely reasons would be:
● someone was rather sloppy when they added oil or did an oil change
● PS fluid leaking into intake
● a valve cover gasket leak just got considerably worse
oil smell like that is almost always oil getting into intake from power steering or oil dripped on to exhaust manifold, and usually the PS leak is more smoke out the tailpipe rahter than smell, when they smell like burnt oil inside the car, especially going down the road, it is almost always oil failing onto manifold, catalytic converter or exhaust
I would start by cleaning the engine, especially exhaust manifold and above it, and see if problem returns
and please, watch where you put the water to rinse, and do not use any kind of "pressure washer"!!

This is out the tailpipe, not external. seems just like valave seals to me, just strange that it would go from nothing to a huge POOF. going to change plugs soon, well see what they look like.

I'm leaning towards the power steering leaking into the intake. Mine did the same thing not long after I had purchased the car. You can check it by just plugging the two vacuum lines coming from the power steering pump. If the smoke stops, then you can either replace the valve on the PS pump or bock it off all together.

ill give that a try, however the level looks fine. Not ruling it out though.
is this applicable on a 2000 though? I quickly looked at the PS reservoir and only saw 2 hoses, one to the pump and one as what im guessing is a return from the rack?

I havent dug into it, but my PS oil level is fine Im not ruling it out yet though, just dont really knwo where these valves are on a 2000, its different than 96 and older.
valve stem seals is my number 1 thought. or perhaps the VC gasket is leaking where the spark plug tubes meet the head, oil seeping into there. Dunno. Will definitly investigate PS area, but didnt know this is an issue on OCF21s

If the problem is in the valve stem seals then you might be able to buy some time with Valvoline Maxlife. In my -89 MR2 I managed to stop some leaks with Maxlife as it tends to revive seals and gaskets to some degree.

one way to tell valve stem seals from a PS leak is that valve stem seals tend to make a big cloud of smoke the first minute or two when the car is cranked up in the morning, but then that clears up and there is virtually no smoke from the tailpipe all day while operating the car, whereas.....
with a PS leak into the intake, the smoke is gonna be there to some degree all day long, as the leak is ongoing, rather than having to drain down for hours at night like with the valve stem seals
