Can someone drive-test something?
I think my TPS is out of adjustment AGAIN!
Can some of you first gen guys leave your car in D (o/d on) and accelerate to 40mph. Watch the tachometer and see where the RPMs drop after you completely let off the gas.
The transmission should be in 3rd or 4th if you go a far enough distance.
So get to 40-42mph (in 4th if possible) and let off the gas completely. Note where the RPMs sit when coasting.
When I let off the gas, the RPM's drop to 1000. This point is under the torque convertor lock up (unlock?) point. Becuase the RPMs drop so much I get that huge lag coming out of the TC lock especially on the freeway. I can put my foot down on the gas, and it sometimes will be 4-5 seconds before the car slowly moves out of the TC.

Took car back to shop. I asked to have the TPS checked for adjustment, but the tech told me that as long as there was a beep sound coming from the ohmmeter that the TPS was working properly.
I think he was slightly annoyed that I was asking him to check this for me because he said there's not really anyway for it to go out of adjustment. When he was testing, as he pulled the throttle level up the beep sound stopped at about the middle point from WOT and closed. Anyone know if that's normal?
Isn't this incorrect ? Don't the resistance measurements have to fall into a certain range?
Thanks-
Lee

HEY! I missed it! Nobody called?
Well, as far as ATF after the 2 or 3 times I've changed it now the problem I described temporarily goes away. As in the fluid is still somewhat thick and the RPMs stay where they're supposed to.
A day or two later the fluid goes back to how it was before and RPM's just drop when I let off the gas. :-(

Without looking at a manual...
Sounds like all he did was check continuity of the idle contacts when the throttle is closed. The beeping stops when you lose continuity. What your supposed to do is use a feeler guage to check those idle contacts at different thicknesses.
I'll look up the specs and get back to you...

i test drove my car and the rpm's drop about 500 from 2000rpm's to about 1500 rpm's. my car seems to drop rpm's around the 2000 rpm mark on the highway and at that rpm i'm going about 60mph. this is very very annoying and i also did the fluid change and it didn't help even a little bit. so if someone could get the tps adjustment procejure it would help out greatly!!! thanks!!
