I am trying to remove the 4 nuts that hold the fan clutch and I was able to remove two of them but two of them stripped now. I was able to remove the 4 but for the plastic fan fins easily but the other 4 after that I'm stuck on the two stripped one. Anyone got some tips on how I can get it off? Tired vise grip and no luck, thing is the space is tight as well so that suck! All inputs will be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance

these nuts will not strip if your use good quality box-end wrenches of the correct precise metric size - 10mm or 12mm whichever it is,

they make a thinner vise-grip than what you may be familiar with, that is the first thing I would try

I used craftsman, wish I could afford snap on and matco stuff lol. But yeah I tried the vise grip and no luck, I'll try to find a thinner vise grip

Craftsman is fine, did you use a box end wrench, rather than an open-end?

if you used a box end and you used the correct size (rather than 11mm or 13mm or 1/2" for example) then the nuts were likely stripped already by a previous owner.

some people use a 1/2" wrench (12.7mm) when they should be using a 12mm, and sometimes they get away with it, but usually not!

Well the nuts were a little strip to begin with but I manage to get only two off. The other two, got no luck at all

I think this information will do the trick

try the model 6LN long-nose vice grips as well (if you can find the old Petersen made ones, they are even better than the current Irwin version)

craftsman makes useful bolt-outs and nut-outs, work great on stripped stuff, and reasonably cheap.

Do they have anything that is like the wrench instead of socket though? Don't think I can fit a socket in between the clutch and pulley

I have no idea how the layout actually is, but have you considered using socket-extenders? (Little bars that basically lock onto your socket until you have one that is long enough to reach the opening.)

Damn still can't get the tel nuts off! They are very stripped/rounded now

Wrap half a hacksaw blade with duct tape. Try to cut the nut down the middle. Dont know how much room is there to work with. But i think your gonna have to destroy those nuts/studs to get it off.

he can only saw in the opposite perpendicular direction that you are thinking - no room

same with the bolt-outs and nut-outs idea - no room

I really don't want to have to cut the stud lol

you might be cutting the stud, because you are in a tight area where if you use, for example, a torch to heat things up, you may catch engine parts on fire, and other methods could be similarly hazardous to the car

did you try cutting the nuts with an air chisel? - it's tricky because if you go to deep, you ruin the stud, you want to cut about 80% through, that will make the nut very weak

did you try a sharp punch into the nut in a counterclockwise direction?

did you look over all of the techniques mentioned in that link I posted?

I have not tried the air chisel yet since do not have one at the moment. Now let's say that I do have to cut both of those studs, what will I have to get/need to replace that thing? Is it just a pulley or what is that piece call, the one with those 4 threaded studs?
