Default What size replacement speakers for 1997? (drop-in)

Hi I am looking for some replacement speakers for my 1997 lexus ls400... I have heard conflicting sizes that fit, so I just need some clarification. I am not looking to mod the boxes in any way. Thank you!

I don't know... I've heard Crutchfield isn't so accurate with our cars, but that may just be limited to the first gen.

Please don't start new threads. This is the third merged one with the same question.

Thank you, but that thread did not help me very much. Even in that thread I have seen conflicting "stock" speaker sizes.. nowhere have I seen where it was explained exactly what speakers will fit. Got any ideas?

You might as well pull your speakers and measure them. You're gonna have to pull them to change them.

Without modification the perfect size is 4", actually 16 cm, but you won't find too many good speakers that size. If you want perfect fit, buy the OEM speakers on eBay, though the quality is lacking. Do what I did and put in some Pioneer 5.25" speakers. Difference compared to OEM is noticeably better.

If you want to be exact, you must first determine which stereo system you have, the Pioneer or Nakamichi. To ascertain that, you must call the parts department at the dealer and provide the VIN number on the vehicle and the stereo code, which is located on the tiny flip door on the front where you insert your cassette--I think it starts with a letter and followed by four numbers. If you don't have the factory system, you must open the speaker grilles and see for yourself. This is the Pioneer speaker, which you can buy on eBay.

Nakamichi system is more compex, with speakers that do not match. This is the Nakamichi front left.

This is the Nakamichi speaker, back right..

http://www.ebay.com/itm/95-96-97-98-lexus-ls400-NAKAMICHI-speaker-OEM-right-rear-/271044631694?pt=Car_Audio_Video&hash=item3f1b84dc8e&vxp=mtr#ht_449wt_679
If you insist on original and new equipment, you will get butt-raped. Just on eBay, the speaker grille alone goes for $214.90 new.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEXUS-OEM-6403350070E0-Speaker-Cover-Speaker-Grille-/221279175774?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3ALexus%7CModel%3ALS400%7CYear%3A1997&hash=item338544445e&vxp=mtr#ht_1416wt_930
Do you want the OEM speaker for $329.56? Be my guest if you want to waste your money.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/LEXUS-OEM-8615050260-Speaker-/221279183081?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3ALexus%7CModel%3ALS400%7CYear%3A1997&hash=item33854460e9&vxp=mtr#ht_1392wt_930
Again, all these depend on which system you have, Pioneer or Nakamichi. With slight modification, you can fit in a set of Pioneer 5.25" speakers that cost $100 per pair and they sound better as well as handle more power. My installer told me right away that the speakers used are 4" speakers, but to be perfect you want original OEM, but do you really want to be that stupid?

I will admit that I am definitely not an expert on speakers and their sizes, but what I do know is that 4" does not equal 16cm. Nor does 5.25".

Just sayin'...

Nor am I, but I do know that the speakers in my '95 are 5.25" with slight modification.
