1990 2jz gte swap
hey every one. new to club lexus. A little about my project just picked up a 1990 ls400 rolling chassis cheep with the intention to put a 2jz gte in it. going with aristo swap and a340 tranny. is this going to be as straight forward as its been made out to be or is there more to it. i have experience doing swaps also have a friend that will re pin the harness for me. should i go with vvti due to more luxuries avail on ecu or dose non vvti keep all funtions in car still. any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
ps. any one have a detailed build thread on this swap seen a couple here but mostly off topic.
thx

it's not common but have been attempted and only a handful have been successful.
1JZ but you get the idea

5-speed swap is another story altogether so do your homework here.

For any one following this just picked up the barn find of the year. Found a 1992 aristo this weekend for $1200 what a steel. Had to drive 12 hours round trip to get it but hey couldnt pass up the deal. Hopfully next weekend put the motor back together as buddy just replaced the head gasket and never finished bolting it back together. Even came with a brand new turbo and old turbo full gasket set and a new set of winter tires sure made out like a bandit. beats 2500 for just the motor. Any one want a aristo rolling shell $2000 obo sholdnt be a prob getting that for it lol. If all goez well shold be ready for a test fit in two weeks. Ill keep updates as I go.

1JZ and 2JZ swaps are very common over here in Malaysia into all sort of cars, Jaguars, Land/Range Rovers, heaps of BMWs, Mercedes.
I've personally seen 2 LS400s with 2JZ swaps, 1 with the older non-vvti and 1 with the newer vvti 2JZ.
I've also seen many LS400s here with 1JZs, either NA, twinturbo or single turbo vvti.
Apparently the engine and transmission plugs right in into the chassis with no modifications needed of the engine and transmission mounting, only needs a bit of rotation for the engine mountings.
The wiring is the crucial step.
My friend's 1991 LS400 with the 2JZ vvti swap has all functions and dash displays working perfectly!

Well im back took some time of the project but she going full bore now just test fitted motor this weekend she fits nice. Motor mounts used were stock engine brackets switched left to right with driftmotion 2jz metal encased rubber mounts great deal $70 each anyone need mounts get them there. Motor now being sent to machine shop this week and ready for complete rebuild. Was a little dirty as buddy had blown the turbo and and head gasket was bearing shavings everywhere but luckily no damage internally all bearing on bottom end were spotless and cylinders still had crosshatching. Replacing all the bearings and rings. The best part is parting out the aristo I got the motor out of ive got less then a grand into the whole project including engine rebuild. Just need to find a way to get the a01b torsion diff out of the aristo into the Ls400. And dont take my word yet but this might make wiring a breeze. http://www.tweakdperformance.com/onl...products_id=29
