Angry OBDII Scan tool for JDM UCF21 1997

Hey guys.

My oversight in purchasing this car included not knowing that the OBDII port would tell all of our North American market scan tools to die in a fire.

I had one code and a flashing red light .. now I have two codes .. a flashing red light .. and a static red light. It's all in Japanese and life sucks.

Is there an easy way to get this sorted? Yes I searched .. and no I can't get my hands on a Toyota dealer specific scan tool.

It fails to communicate with the device.

A JDM UCF20/21 is not compatible with OBD-II. You have to use a Toyota S2000 or a DST-1.

What is the most cost effective way to acquire one or the other?

The OBD II scan tool that works for me is made by Autel. The model is MS300. I got it off Amazon.com.

Yes, that tool is great, unfortunately it won't work on his JDM (Japanese model) of LS400

That is a big question to me too.

So far I have been successful just using the built-in function indicated at the middle part of the page although everything is written in Japanese.

To keep an old Celsior needs some Japanese language skill indeed.

Flap over to Japan find the scan tool then a nice gal to marry that is bi-lingual. Bring both back. In this process, you now have set-up a means to obtain JDM goodies. This also allows trips to visit her family and enjoy the many tasty varieties of Japanese cuisine. Even better if she cooks and is into the car scene. No doubt you'll have to subscribe to NHK broadcasting so that she can get her fill of Japanese dramas and what is happening in the homeland. She can then tutor you.

Mmm...might be easier to find and buy a US LS400.
