I just bought a 1996 Ls400 and when I turn the AC on it blows high no matter what setting its on. Meaning, whether I select the low, medium, or high setting it still blows at high speed. I just change the temperature from time to time or just turn off the AC if it gets too cold. I would like my low, medium, high fan blower settings to all function. Anyone know the solution to this problem?

first, dump the DTC codes using the procedure in the factory service manual as shown here

Ok, no codes showed up during the diagnostics. But I did some searching on this site and found someone saying it is a blown resistor that is causing this problem, hopefully this is a cheap and easy fix.

beginning in 1995, LS400 no longer used a separate blower resistor, that is why I didn't mention it before - the blower resistor is now integrated into a very expensive part ($300+) called the blower motor control module p/n 87165-50020

I did find one used on ebay, and only one, so better grab it before it's gone, that stands a very good chance of being the problem.

on the upside, it is a fairly easy part to install

Where exactly is thie blower motor control module located? Someone is parting out their 95 LS400 and can hopefully get it locally from him. Thank you so much for your help, it is really helping me out.

somewhere on the side of the evaporator box (the big thing with A/C lines going in, near the blower motor), if my memory serves - - if not there then in the vicinity of blower motor

just study that photo on ebay and memorize exactly what it looks like or else print a photo out, and then find it! - it's somewhere under there!

Just wondering if the 98-2000 LS400 would have this part? Would it fit on my 96?

No. the p/n 87165-50020 only fits 95-97 models

the 98 and newer models use a very different part that has roughly the same function, but is completely incompatible, both electrically and physically

Hi, sorry to jump in your thread but I have a similar problem w/my 92 ls400. Blower on high no way of turning blower off, compressor went out so mreplaced w/used one from 93 then recharged blower still on high no light on ac control and display(never had since got car) but ac now cold how to repair or replace ac/control, only way to stop blower is to remove heater relay under hood, but if ac is not cold then it blows hot air, any suggestion,help,tks lmk.

well you are in luck, your '92 uses a common inexpensive blower resistor p/n 87138-50010 that runs about $32 online at Toyota Parts Zone or Carson Toyota or any online Toyota dealership.

not saying that is definitely the culprit, but I would say that it is a high probability.

Ok, I just purchased the module from your link you posted. I will need your advice on how to take out the glove compartment etc to install this module
