Looking for performance suggestions, seems like a rare thing to do.

incase you didnt seem my previous post in another thread
you dont have to run a piggy back style ecu layout..
you can run the ecu of your choice, here we chose an autonic.
and then also run a suprastick auto ecu - http://www.latentsolutions.com/suprastickuv.html
i found out the pinout to my mates 1uz v8 auto ecu and wired in the 2 ecus into the factory plug so it was plug and play.
this is the job i did on my mates 2wd hilux (tacoma) with a 1uz conversion running the stock motor electrics and auto as well
round 1 was the v8 conversion using the factory loom

round 2 we twin turboed it 348hp at 10psi still using the above system

For one, it's still and LS, so the interior wasn't designed and manufactured by fisher price.
Two, it's still a Toyota, except it has a little bark.
Flowmasters wouldn't be my first choice but to each their own.
And I have never had a problem with any Toyota product that I have installed an exhaust on, or built one for. In fact, most respond exceptionally well to a properly engineered exhaust system.
That said, I certainly wouldn't want to run anything that would cause extreme resonance or droning.
In my increasing years, I have learned to appreciate the quiet smooth ride the LS gives, but wouldn't mind a little more growl at more judicious throttle angles.

The 1uz is becoming very popular as a performance swap for numerous other cars. They are real popular with s13's and other 240 type nissans, BMW 3 series, ae86 corolla's, supra's and the like. There is a wealth of documented performance info on the 1uz due to these people. I would start with lextreme and the 1uz facebook group for more info and go from there. Plenty of people are pushing 800+ dyno'd whp with a screw or 2.
There are numerous quality piggy back ecu's out there to tune the stock motor to make quite a bit more power without upgrading anything else. There is nothing wrong with wanting to tailor your car to suit your tastes. If you want it loud and fast, do it and put a smile on your face and let the old men yell at the clouds.

most LS400 owners that I have corresponded with who have went ahead and done the ECU capacitor replacement are reporting more power and a substantial improvement in low end torque (in the form of off the line quickness), this is likely due to the ECU being able to nail the optimal mixture perfectly in a variety of conditions, once its capacitors are functioning correctly again - now there is a lot of bang for the buck!

hearsay about ecu caps helping performance will remain so. the absolute best scenario would just be a return to standard performance levels.

yeah, but fortunately the LS400 is famous for not having performance degradation until 300,000 miles or more, no wonder the 1UZ has made Ward's 10 best engines list multiple times!
