Default Wanting To Switch Antennas

I have a 1995 LS400 and I plan to repaint it. I am planning to do away with the old power mast antenna and installing something simpler. A wiki search reports that the conventional power mast is replaced with a "rear windshield diversity antenna." What is this and how can I replace with my present power mast?

the diversity antenna is embedded wiring in the rear glass, that has the same functionality as your conventional antenna - it is just a more sleek hidden design, but similarly effective for picking up radio.

trying to apply this type of antenna to your existing glass may be a significant challenge, since it is rather built into the glass, you are probably better off not even worrying about it, but if you are adamant, easiest solution would normally be a rear glass from a newer model, however, I don't think the 98 model rear glass (first year for diversity antenna) will fit your 95

so unless someone here, such as Kansas, knows an easy aftermarket mod that works well, I would scuttle this plan!

I'm not promoting these particular antennas but you can find a variety of hidden aftermarket antennas on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_kw...E-Easy-install

Some people have used the phone antenna imprinted on the rear window of the 95-00 LS400 as their radio antenna - there are past threads on this LS400 forum about that. The lead for the cell phone antenna is on the right side of the trunk behind the trim and;/or under the false floor. Another lead for the cell phone antenna is under the center console - this lead can be activated by connecting the two coax cables in the trunk - I used a connector from radio shack when I used the imprinted phone antenna with a cell phone kit I used to have installed in my 00 LS.

I'd probably go with an aftermarket antenna made to use with a radio.

The cell phone antenna seems like a viable option, since my car has the cell phone (Wow!) installed under the armrest, though it is now completely useless given its 1995 technology that is virtually unsupported by today's GSM/CDMA networks. Could you provide a link to this option, and how is the reception?

i'm currently using the cell phone imprinted antenna as a radio antenna and it works great on my 97. i have disabled the power mast antenna, so you can very much shave and eliminate the hole.

Default Keep it simple- #1 rule

Unless you are planning on filling the hole in the rear quarter panel, why not just buy a nice single piece antenna mast like I did for $8.95? I raked it back to make it look a little racy. Reception is great too !

I'd go with THXDOC on this one... simple, easy, and proven to work.
