Default Batt terminal replacement: Pos and Negative terms?

I posted awhile ago about my 98 LS not starting one morning; luckily it had not done it since until I got back in town from Vegas (go figure) this week.

I left on Saturday and got back on Tuesday. I get into the car, turn the key and nada (no start, no clicks). I then turn the key back to the to the initial point but leave it in the ignition and try again and she fires right up.

Unfortunately this happened again Wednesday and Thursday when I left work (both days car sat 10 hours and weather was sunny and upper 80s; just an FYI). Same procedure of turning all the way left then starting again with key in the whole time.

I figure the >$20 at Toyota is worth a shot and here is the info I gathered from a post by LS Cowboy:

Toyota Parts Zone has it for $13.70, a local dealership should be able to match that or very close.

you can check also Sewell, Lexus of South Atlanta, Park Place, Carson etc. but they are all around $14
My question is do I need both terminals or just positive? The started was replaced about 100k ago and battery was replaced about two years ago. No other electrical stuff has been done to the car.

Thanks for the help!

the '98-00 are sensitive to battery issues, usually with loose/corroded terminals causing VSC check lights to christmas-tree the dash.

Next time it doesn't start, shift the car into Neutral then try. I've seen the neutral safety switches come out of alignment a few times.

yes, this is issue is almost always either neutral safety switch, battery connections, or bad grounds, not every single time, but the vast majority, so check those things first

the negative cable can have issues, but it is usually the positive one where hidden corrosion likes to build up, and why you should start with the new + side terminal from the dealership or online dealership

there is a post somewhere here on Club Lexus where Yamae was able to fix his neutral safety switch via a shot of voltage, search for it!
