Default non-sunroof 98..?

How common are LS400's without a sunroof? I loved the sunroofs in my past Lexus' but I understand they can be an area that can rust as well as cause leaks. I owned a 10 and a 30 and both had sunroofs. Was only the 20/21 offered without one?

Most of the cars I've owned including the LS400's I've driven for the past 23 years have had sunroofs and I've never had one leak. I've never had a sunroof leak on the Volvo, Mercedes, Honda. etc. vehiicles I've owned either. I've never heard of rusting around a sunroof.

Lexus vehicles without sunroofs are extremely rare here on the mainland. Sunroofs were always optional on the LS400 but were probably on 99.99% of them. Lexus vehicles without sunroofs were usually special ordered by very tall people.

i believe all USDM LS400s came with it standard. it is possible the first generation UCF10s didn't come with them (since some had a cloth option), but all 95-up LS400s are leather with sunroof standard.

actually it was still an option for all years '89-00. It was just VERY rarely not selected, as Kansas mentioned.

I have personally seen a '98 hardtop in a mall parking lot lol. Only one i've ever come across.

This is my 98 "hard top". Not sure how to correct the image from my tablet.
Didn't realize how rare it was to have the sunroof delete option. Don't know why the po ordered it this way. He was a elderly Japanese man.

I don't have a pic handy, but my 96 LS has no sunroof, nor did it come from the factory with a CD changer

I prefer no sunroof for 3 reasons:

● some sunroofs do leak, such as my '96 top of the line Acura RL

● sunroof increases wind noise and slightly decreases gas mileage

● sunroof decreases headroom

↑ agreed. I also frequent a land cruiser forum and the sunroofs cause all kinds of leakage and rust.

The lack of a sunroof in your car was not because of a "delete option". It was not standard.

More unusual than your lack of a sunroof is how makers have gone to the trouble of making unique variations of their vehicles for the relatively small car market of Hawaii. Does Servco still have a "lock" on the Hawaiian new car market?

You should see the 98-00 LS400's sold in Taiwan which were usually equipped more like the ones sold in Australia except for being left hand drive - A/C and audio controls in the rear seat center arm rest, without the rear power seat, with a RHD drive radio head unit in a LHD car with the volume control on the "wrong" side. Like most manufacturers, Toyota sells a seemingly infinite number of variations of its cars around the world.

it's weird how the moon's gravitational pull on Hawaii allows you to park on a wall like that, without the car falling over although it's not the first time I have seen it:

Yup servco runs the show here not only on new car sales but parts as well now.

I haven't seen another lexus in hawaii without a sunroof. Thanks for the info Kansas!

Gonna bump this because it’s top of google search... the ‘99 ls400 I just picked up today does not have a sunroof. I was surprised to see it when evaluating the car but not a deal breaker.

As a person who is 6'5, I wish I was able to find that car , I could use a tiny bit more of headroom since the seat can't go quite as low as I want.

But you can't win them all.
