replacing the filter is important, as long as you know what you are doing and do it in a very hospital-clean way - an Aisin transmission has no tolerance for dirty fingers or a little wind whipping up the dust in your driveway while the pan is off - if you don't have an indoor garage, it is probably not a good DIY job!

I would be far more scared about doing the "flush" - drain and fill is much safer, Aisin transmissions don't like to have all of the fluid replaced at once, nor do they like some flush machine that has been contaminated with who know what from the last car!

if Aisin didn't want the filter replaced, it wouldn't be a service item in the Lexus dealer's parts inventory!

the car has already had multiple flushes to the tranny before I got it,

so If you talking about shocking the tranny with a flush. its should be fine.

would you recommend waiting another 20k. then replace the filter. or do it asap and just drian and refill again.?

what do you think.?

has the filter ever been replaced? - it needs to be replaced in a 23 year old car, if it never has been, if for no other reason than the filter material can actually split from age

The flushes do not clean the filter. The photo below shows what I've got from the filter when the pan was dropped last year.

The car was a 98 Celsior 14 years old. The AT was once flushed and also the pan was dropped at a dealer to stop the ATF leak applying the new FIPG 4 years ago. At that time the filter was not changed.

The leak has started again within a couple years and I decided to do it again myself using a gasket. I was amazed to see that there were many pieces of FIPGs and metal particles in the filter. I am hoping that your filter is not as bad as this.

this photo is a perfect example of why you should NOT use FIPG unless you are a robot located in 田原市 Tahara, Aichi Prefecture!

use a Felpro gasket!

There's a business opportunity, a stocking Felpro gasket dealer in Nihon.
