Your car is in really nice shape. My blue car is sittin in the grey tent that's in the pic of my ls. It too needs some lovin. When I get the wiring sorted out I will be starting to do the body work to my 77 and then I will get around to the 72 after that. The plan is to drive down, with my buddy in his 69 510 wagon, to LA for the Japanese classic car show. I dunno if its gonna happen but we will see

It has 137K miles on it. The interior is moderately worn and needs most the obvious attention. The first 5 years in storage, it was doing well but after that, the A/C seals went south from non-use. The carb needs to be rebuilt as well. The rubber brake lines began leaking sometime in 2010 so all that needs to be replaced. I'm sure that having sat for this long, there will be other parts to dig into the wallet.
The parts guy at a local dealer has a RA42 liftback with a variety of engine builds. We'd been talking about his dual Mikuni setup. He told me the car runs 12's but the horrible 10 MPG limits it for local trips only. Sounds nice the way those carbs suck air.
I tell myself one of these days I'll have it at Toyotafest.

I hear ya. I love the sound of side drafts and its the biggest problem I'm having with picking what motor to go with for my 72. I have an 18rg and a spare 1uz
The rg is only missing the exhaust manifold. It came with solex side draft carbs and will bolt right in no problems. It makes about 140hp and 125 ft lb and will ,with a little work, rev to 9000rpm.
I love the power my of my 77 with the 7mgte but the headache of all the turbo piping I've decided to go n/a. The 1uz makes similar power to the gte and will fit a little in the smaller front end of the 72. It will need custom headers but one of the classic celica guys makes a bolt in sub frame to fit the 1uz in. I have a w58 and the ability to do wiring. So it's a tough choice.
Also for you ae86 brake lines swap so they r an easy source for ss braided brake lines

PS - wires do not break in LS400 unless the vehicle has been in an accident, pretty much all electrical problems come down to some idiot modified/cut/rigged up or added to the factory wiring while installing some aftermarket crap sound system, HID lighting, security system, ipod modification, lowered suspension, etc.
