I am guessing the normal places, wheel wells, underbody, bottom/edges of doors. Trying to get an idea of what specifically to look for when I start looking at potential cars.

My bad, went into auto pilot mode and must have blanked out at "rust areas". But yes, those areas.

i would check the lower control arms, toe arms, radius arms, and the like. high snow areas are usually killer on those metal suspension bits. there has been a few cases of the actual coil spring breaking from the amount of rust.
