Default Looking to get a 95 LS400.... What should i keep an eye out for?

Hey everyone, I'm usually on the 3rd Gen GS forums but i thought i'd ask everyone here for advise. Looking to get a 95 LS400 for someone. it has 175k miles for $2gs. Is that a decent deal? anything specific should i keep an eye out for when i go check it out?

That's a deal. Same engine for the most part as a GS400. Other than that, the rest of the car is pretty solid...

That the timing belt service has been done at the 90-100K interval. You'll have it in for timing belt service pretty soon with this one.
Fluids changed at the regular intervals. So check the P&S, tranny and brake fluid.
Suspension clunks when going over bumps.

Check the power steering pump for leaks, then drive it on the freeway around 60-70 MPH and abruptly let off the gas. If the car lurches forwards and makes a clunking sound when you do, then you need to get an updated ECU to correct it. When i frist bought mine i thought it had some sort of transmission issue when i was driving it home, but a newer computer fixed the issue after i read up on it.

As far as if it's a decent deal, it really depends on the condition. Mine had 154K on the clock with a decent body and interior for $2700, but i needed to throw about $1000 worth of parts at it to get it running well.

Mine needed a Power steering pump, engine and transmission mounts, full fluid changes, an alignment, upper control arm, the updated ECU and cruise control computer, various filters, thermostat, and coolant temperature sensor, and also the investment in the Factory service manuals to get it where i wanted to to be. That and i tinted the windows, but it feels like a new car now

yoshiman is correct.
we have no idea if thats really a deal or not until you have it checked out by a mechanic, or drive it for some time.

you are better off in the long run doing as much preventative maintenance when you first buy it..if you plan on keeping the car

Right... expect to put some maintenance dollars into it immediately..so the actual cost will always be higher as rarely does anyone care for a car the way you would... but look for major things that we know have problems or issues with that many miles...leaking power steering pump. Loose front end parts. Loose or broken motor/transmission mounts... seat belts that don't return properly. Cluster operation and lighting. On my 95, the temp gage does not work and I've already changed the temp sender...
