1998 LS400 Roof Clicking *Solved*
hello,
annoying roof clicking sound above and behind driver head. When I push the roof on the sound area the sound stops
you can hear the sound in the below video:
Now the solution:
1- Un clip the driver door inside trim to reach the roof botls.
2- Loosen the 2 roof lining bolts in that area and a black plastic push clip.
3- Pull with your hands the roof lining down to see the rattle area, in my case the rattle source was what I believe is a black wires sleeve.
4- inserted a 1 inch sponge in between the roof and the wire sleeve.
5- reassembled everything back
Job took 15 min.
no more clicking noise
hope it helps.

Bump, tried to do this today on my car.
When you say '1- Un clip the driver door inside trim to reach the roof botls.' What piece of trim do I need to remove exactly?
Is it part '62212' in the diagram? If so do I need to remove it entirely, or just enough to reach the roof bolts? I feel like the 62212 piece if connected to the bottom trim piece below the seat belt, which is over the SRS side airbag if I'm not mistaken.
Any advice on what tools I should use to remove said piece? I'm using a small bone tool, but I feel like it may break with too much force.
Thanks.

I have the same issus
please if you don’t mind, the images are no longer available and I’m not sure how to do it. Not very experiences with these kind of stuff, so far you’re the only person who found a fix, we went to the dealership 4 times, they don’t even acknowledge the noise. We are desperate.
