the Ralph Lauren polo links are coming up with all kinds of scam warnings from my web browser, just buy from someone reputable such as Carson Toyota, they have these Japan version Denso filters.

Thanks LScowboy for the tip. I just went to their web site, and got this when doing a search by the part number:

Old Part Number 90915-20004
New Part Number 90915YZZD3
Part Name FILTER, OIL
MSRP $5.41
Core $0.00
Save $1.36
Online Price $4.05

and they are not showing me the old one... I am going to try to call them now, before they close and will post what I found out.

OK, just got off the phone with Carson Toyota, here is the deal:
They don't list the 90915-20004 on their site, but they do have it in stock. The price is $15.97/ea, and you can buy one or few, or box of 10... but you do pay shipping, which if I understood him well, is $9.99 minimum.
I will be in LA area in a few weeks time, so I will probably just drop by the store and get one or two filters while there.
If anyone is from LA area, Carson Toyota is relatively close to IKEA, which you can see from 405 when going south from LAX (about 10 min south of LAX).

Well thats how I bought my last ones from that site. Bought 4 of them have 1 left and just recently I bought some royal purple ones. They fell as hefty as the Toyota ones.

In that case that site is probably hacked... and they don't even know it.

cowboy, in the op you wrote Fram XG3600 but a few posts down you wrote Fram XG8600 is your favorite oversized filter for the LS. Is this a typo or do both fit? If so, what are the differences?

hey, good catch! - I will fix that typo right now!
you are the first one to bust the cowboy, who is rather meticulous about technical accuracy

the Fram XG3600 is one of my 3 favorite LS oil filers at the moment, quite impressive when you crack it open and see how much they put into this one!

the other two are:

Motorcraft FL-400S - a favorite I am currently running, well built and best anti-drainback valve of any LS compatible filter, and that is probably the most important feature of an oil filter, as it ensures fast oil to critical areas on startup, which is great on wear

Toyota 90915-20004 - made in Japan by Denso and super free flowing + oversize, though not as large as these other two....getting harder to find and pricey, great filter though! (it's the filter that got all these LS cars to 400K miles that you hear about)

Thanks for clearing that up. Wow, the FL-400 is only $4! I usually use the Amsoil EA15K02 and change it once a year, I put on only around 8-9k miles.

scroll down to see the extra guard filter test..then conclusion of the complete testing...anyways its up to you as a consumer to weed out the stuff u read on any forum and make decisions based on what u have derived..or based on real life experiences. I for one would recommend going to BOB IS THE OIL GUY for any type of oil related issues...lol funny

About the only thing i agree with is the fl-400s being a good filter as its made by pureolator...fram puts money in their marketing and less in their products....some of their top tier filters are good...thats about it

If the Motorcraft FL-400S is great and made by Purolator, the PureONE PL20195 (99.9% Efficient) in theory better than FL-400S.
