This is not the standard unit, it is made by Toyota but is much larger. It uses a different filtering material. It is only available through our CL vendor Carson Toyota. From what I understand, the TRD filter is this same one re branded.

yes, you are referring to the Toyota p/n 90915-20004 (made in Japan) which is indeed larger than aftermarket filters for the LS400, in fact it is the same size as the more recent 90915-YZZD3, main difference is that the latter is now made in Thailand, both are made by Nippon Denso, whereas the TRD is a bit smaller and made by FRAM Filtration (aka Champion)
neither of these three are as large as the filters on my main list, but I will add the two larger Toyota filters and the TRD to the list in any event, as they now would be "oversize" compared to the aftermarket filters in the typical size if you looked up LS400 fitment
actually the standard unit has grown back to this size, perhaps by popular demand - the current standard Lexus dealership filter for LS400 is the 90915-YZZD3, which is the same physical dimensions as the Japan-made one you are getting from Carson

I would be more impressed if u told me they make hastings..pure-olator pure 1..baldwin,or wix
frams higher end filters might be ok at best..but I guess u don't sell these parts and listen to shops and walk in customers every day of ur life like I do..research the rep fram has..its not good..anyway u slice it u will be ok with 3,000 oci's but once u start going into an extended oci's I recommend buying a better filter.

haha sillies. i never knew 90915-YZZD3 was an oversize. been using that one on my LS and IS since i've owned both cars.
i'm uncertain if the ground clearance is affected by running a larger filter. i would assume not, larger doesn't necessarily mean longer. but i just want to confirm for the folks whose oil pan is millimeters away from the pavement.
and you guys can go 5-digit intervals (>10,000 miles) before an oil change?! despite using synthetic i still don't go beyond 6,000 miles before a change.

I used to be hardcore about changing oil & filter every 3000, but modern full synthetics and/or modern diesel rated heavy duty oils as well as premium high end filters like the ones I listed have gotten so much better in the last 25 years that changing oil every 3000-5000 miles is becoming a bit silly
