for example if i was able to aquire a 1992 ls400 engine computer and install it into my 1993 ls400.

Only if that ecu was for late year 1992. The one made after September 92 should have the right part number that can work for a 93.

Can you or anyone else here verify that part number?
I did not think to record it when I removed mine for inspection.
I will be sending my ecu to be rebuilt soon and I may pick this up for that time if it is compatible.
