Default Idling issue

I have a 1990 LS400 and I have been noticing something weird. When I first start the car everything is normal, but when I put the car into drive and start going I notice that the car will shake until it gets warmed up. When I get onto the freeway everything feels fine, but when I get off of the freeway and sitting at a stop sign or light I notice it start to shake again. Then it becomes hard to get any speed up. Any idea on what the problem could be? I had a complete engine tune up about 5 years ago when I first bought the car. Also, it has about 240,000 miles on it if that helps.

Have you replaced the engine coolant temperature sensor ever? its a $50 OEM part and will smooth the idle out significantly if it hasn't been done.

Tama Enterprises is a Japanese company but their thermostats are not Toyota/Lexus OEM parts as far as I know. You can find their home page here and they are showing company names that they sell their products. You also can see the English page clicking upper right corner but the information there is limited.

I don't find any car manufacturing companies among them except motor sports related companies such as Suzuki Sports, Subaru Technical International, Nissan Motor Sports International and others. I don't find any singe name of Toyota or Lexus related.

Tama's products can be purchased at parts shops around here as aftermarket parts. According to shop owners I know, Tama's parts are mostly OK to use but sometimes they are not fully compatible. One owner said,"The reason why we use them is just to save costs. Quality-wise, they are OK and far better than most Chinese parts coming in a lot these days,"

Well, you guys are fond of Japanese products but remember that all of them are not equal to OEM quality. Sometimes some are better than OEM level but most of the case, they are not having extremely strict tests defined and required by car manufacturers.

I didn't say TAMA was the OEM for LS400 thermostat, I think it is KUZEH ?, but I thought TAMA was Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor OEM, or perhaps the OEM is SANKEI ?

yamae - can you please tell us who the true OEM maker of p/n 89422-20010 is for our LS400?

would also love to know who is the OEM for our tie rod ends (inner and outer) and also our upper control arms!

please add any information you can to my OEM thread!

Tama does not manufacture any "thermal parts" as Toyota OEM parts. They are not accepted yet by Toyota according to a friend of mine who knows the internal situations. Tama's parts are only available as after market parts.

Most of engine temp sensors used for Toyota are supplied from 2 major companies, SEMITEC and OHIZUMI. P/N 89422-20010 must be manufactured by one of them.

Yes, KUZEH is supplying thermostats to Toyota. I found mine was KUZEH's. I have compared an old and a new at my blog writing for my overseas DIY friends here to know how much the opening was different after 13 years of use.

As far as I know, tie rod ends and upper control arms are manufactured by TOYOTETSU.

Regarding the OEM threads, I will be adding some more but there are very strict restrictions and those who work for Toyota do not inform me any. I live close to Toyota HQ and some of my friends and relatives are working there. Actually my daughter is one of them working as an interpreter and a translator. She was educated in US and speaks English 10 times better than me but not Spanish. If I were her, I could be writing things here more and better.

You are welcome, Cowboy.

I forgot to write about P/N 89422-20010. The copied parts list below tells that it was used up to July 1997 for JDM Celsior.

CELSIOR UCF1# 1UZFE 8911 9410 89422-20010
CELSIOR UCF2# 1UZFE 9410 9707 89422-20010
