Default Benefit to Air Box Mod???

Hello, I've been doing alot of reading on simple cheap mods I can do to my LS 400. I have read about the Jbrady and Lexkost air box mod and curious if anyone is running either and pleased with them? I read how everyone loves the sound but other than that is there a benefit? I bought a K&N filter when I first purchased the car. Would I be better off just sticking with that? Thanks

I'm running the Lexkost intake on mine and have been for several years with a K&N intake. Definite increase in audibility, but to my knowledge, nobody has run either mod through a dyno to compare before/after results. Some owners report a seat-of-the-pants increase, but any gains I would estimate to be very small.

If you decide to do one or the other, the Lexkost mod takes all of five minutes to complete, and if you don't like it, you can just put everything back the way it was - no damage done.

consider it an audtory gain and nothing else, the LS has a decent flowing airbox from factory, the biggest restriction in the factory airflow is the lack of lift and duration in the OEM cams and the headers.

There will be almost no benefit at all just modding the air box.
Intensive tests and experiments were done as well as the strict simulations at the design stage. In order to get better results, you would need to do more work than those.

Thanks, I may do the Lexkost mod just to try it out. Did you remove the headlight trim piece?

Has anyone else tried the K&N Air Flow Demonstrator at your local Autozone, O'reilly's, PepBoys, etc. parts store?

I got my rubber door trim at an O'Reilley's for less than $5; not running a (rubber) bumper; it's very secure without it.

I did the Jbrady mod, to me it was all for the sound improvement. Although i do have a actual HKS kit from an gs/is 300 BIN that i want to modify to fit on the lexus.

you read/search, find the thread, and do the modification yourself.

there are links in the FAQ.

i have, very convincing! but looking at the k&n version of the filter for our cars, it is very apparent that the stock filter has more surface area. the flow characteristic between them have yet to be compared.

Makes you kinda wonder if the OEM filter flows better than the K&N.
