Some would argue that...

What was K&N smoking when they finally put them side by side. It should have went back to the drawing board. They should do a redesign with an element in the center. There must be some documentation proving better air flow with what's pictured above. I bought it because its 'supposed' to be better. It certainly doesn't add much 'noise', I found it noticeble only above 4500 rpm.

On the topic of intakes... I know the 98-00 air inlet tube has a built in resonance chamber. It's noticible on the underside. If this is blocked/closed off, I assume induction sound should be louder ?

the resonator isn't purely for sound, it offers a certain performance advantage as well.

In terms of sound though, it doesn't quiet the intake so much as it reduces drone at select rpm.

So a while back I did my version of the 2 known intake mods. The filter pod has a half cut on the bottom edge. I removed the resonance chamber as discussed above & Gorilla taped the holes. Completed a custom fit heat shield sealing off the air box compartment. It fits pretty snug & protected any edge that came in close contact to components around it. I also removed most of the headlight gasket for fresh air. Now it sounds much better & seems to rev more freely.

If anything, this style of the short ram air might be beneficial. Obviously, it would require some major custom work for the MAF.
