Factory Radio problems 1990 LS400
Hi guys. I can't seem to find any help here so I'm throwing it out to you all....
My factory radio only plays on the driver side. No bass speaker no passenger side...
The dentist I bought it from says it was like that when he bought it several yrs ago.
Rather than run to an audio shop I thought I'd see if anyone has any thoughts here?
thanks in advance!

The attached diagram is for the standard Pioneer system. If yours headunit says Nakamichi on the front, then this diagram may not apply.
There were three different audio systems available in the 90 LS:
1) Pioneer without CD changer (no CD button and separate FM1 and FM2 buttons)
2) Pioneer with CD changer (with CD button and one FM1/FM2 button)
3) Nakamichi with CD changer.
I would doubt that three of the seven speakers have failed - I guess you could test one of them.
If the problem is in the headunit, you could "maybe" have it repaired, buy a working used head unit or go aftermarket. It all depends on how much you want to spend.

When i got my 1992 3 of the 4 door speakers had blown. Probably due to age and dry rot or some other owner going full blast on the radio. Just bought some inexpensive replacements. Sounds good just a small pain to pull off the door panels.

hello Ken,
If yours is the Nakamichi then you may have the same problem I had. I spent hours of research and took the head unit in to be serviced and finally found out that it wasn't the amp etc but simply the volume control (potentiometer) was in need of cleaning. Simply remove the volume **** and you will see that there is a sleeve that allows to switch to be pushed in and out and turned. spray with compressed air first, then spray with something like "DeoxIT D5". Work the **** pushing in and out and turning for a considerable time and then let dry overnight. I had to take my head unit completely apart to clean properly. Good luck

Also check under the rear seat for water damage to the wiring loom/plugs under there, this forms part of the OEM telephone interface which by chance mutes all the speakers except the drivers when a phone call is made or received.
