Installed some 10in subs
Ok, so I'm done with the install of the new box. It's just a small sealed box with two 10's. I have them mounted in the rear deck. I'm going to add two 6x9's on each side also running off a small amp. I still need to build a mesh cover to go over the subs. But here are some updated pictures with the new finished box. I'm rocking these old kickers until I get some funds together for some newer subs.

The amp in the picture wasn't doing the job. I just picked up a 1500w amp and now they hit pretty good. I don't know if the door speakers are stock or not (never had the panels off), but it sounds pretty darn good for the money I have in it.
Used everything (for now)
JVC headunit $60
2 Kicker 10's and box $35
new used 1500w amp $50
Honestly these cars are so well insulated from the factory. I am maxing out the headunit, but it still sounds perfectly clear. With the doors shut and windows up, you would never guess how loud it is inside the car. Then open a door, and BAM it sounds like you are stepping into a concert. lol. I'm not a pro, but I'm very happy with the way it sounds. It has lots of bass on the songs it should, and sounds awesome on the rock songs too.
If I keep that box and the location of it, I should have just enough room underneath it to fit the air tank....

Wow I never thought Id see a box mounted up like that! I have the same size box with 10s on the floor facing the trunk and they slap. Ive had Alpine Type R speaker/components that Ive been meaning to put on the Lexus and Ive been waiting for almost 3 years for these 21 year old speakers to blow and nothing, still sound great so until then it looks like ill be too lazy to cut up the individual speaker boxes in each door to fit the bigger alpine ones...

Yeah, I'm going to design some kind of mount to where I can easily take the sub box out if I need to, like for a family trip or something. I'm thinking of some kind of sliding racks so you can just slide the box into place. The racks could hold the box's weight and then just have a bolt on each side to keep it from going anywhere. But, it's all still just ideas for now.
I'm planning on putting two 6x9's on each side of the box with a small amp running them. I ran two sets of RCA's just so I could do that later down the road. When it's finished I will be making some sort of cover (maybe speaker mesh) to go over the whole thing, and also I want to have access panels to the coilovers for easy adjustment. When you look inside the car with the cover on it, you will only see a smooth surface all the way across the deck lid. Sound will flow threw, but you won't see them.
I'm surprised no one has asked what is holding the trunk lid up.....

Well, the main reason is to have easy acces to the spar tire well. And for bag setup coming soon, I needed the space. On top of that, I like the idea of having the subs pretty much in the cabin of the car. I'm not an expert nor do I have any scientific proof, but I think it sounds much louder and cleaner in the car with them up on the rear deck lid.
