Check Engine Light 5 minutes a day
My 92 ls400 has a strange problem started 3 days ago.
The CEL come on less than a minutes after it started in the morning.
Then the light went off a few minutes later with normal driving, no other symptom.
Please give me some ideas.
Spark plugs? air filter? oil change?

you need to scan this car for codes, then clear the codes by disconnecting negative battery cable for a few minutes, then recrank and see if CEL comes back, then scan it again - report initial and returning codes back here, and we can analyze from there.

Yes, I can do it.
Will the code be there even after it turn off by itself after a few minutes?
or I have to do it while the CEL appear?
Thanks.

Yes it will store that info till you disconnect the battery. I found using the diag connect in the engine bay easier than the one under the driver dash. Last cel i had was for the cam sensor i replaced both and crank sensor.
Hope yours is just as easy.

code 25 can be caused by many things, such as: a leak in the air intake, MAF sensor (my first suspect) , O2 sensor, Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor or injector/fuel delivery issues, Idle Air Control Valve, other vacuum leaks
AFM (MAF) sensor would be more likely than O2 sensors since the problem is just brief at start up when the MAF is relied upon during O2 sensor heat-up
so my top 3 votes are:
· dirty AFM (MAF) sensor (don't clean it with a commercial MAF cleaner, as this is not a true MAF like 95 and newer have, which are safe to clean with MAF cleaner sprays) - you have to be super gentle such a low psi compressed air - solvents can kill your AFM (MAF) !
· Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor
· intake or vacuum leak

Will check MAF resistance tomorrow. I checked and changed 6 hardened vacuum hose today. Will check CEL again tomorrow morning.
Will it related to EGR pipe? Last week I found it cracked between the hose and the mounding bracket on top. I put on some high temp steel putty on the crack and let it dried for 2 days.
Will it be old plugs? I have not has them change for a long time ( 3 - 4 years).
Will it be related to vacuum leak at the power steering pump? I have a leak that needs refilling PS every week.
I know I have been too lazy. I just feel it was so dependable for me and I need to trying to catch up now.
Thanks for every advise.

new plugs, wires, caps, rotors and coolant temp sensor!
and use real Toyota parts bought online at about 25% off dealership price
I would also change thermostat and clean throttle body and drain and refill transmission fluid
check timing belt condition while you have it exposed when doing caps & rotors

Two days with no CEL.
I guess the vacuum hose was the issue.
Now I am lining up the projects.
1. rear brake pad and bleed all brake fluids. How much brake fluid I need?
2. Power steering pump. Is it better get the $125 eBay one or $140 from autozone?
3. new plugs, wires, caps, coolant temp sensor and main seal. What is good but not too expensive?
4. Replace cracked door handle and side marker.
5. Replace subwoofer that have no base for 2 years.
I heard a small noise the moment when I making right turn, is the the rack or shock?
Am I missing anything?

You can save yourself some $$$ with the tuneup parts by buying some of the OEM stuff as "aftermarket" stuff.... for example... the Original wires and plugs were made by Denso, which you can order off certain websites as aftermarket stuff.... although they are the exact same parts, since Lexus hasnt been able to slap their name on them, they don't charge as much.
As far as the P/S pump goes, i just bought one today from NAPA for $150. If i were going to get anywhere and get rebuilt alternators/pumps/engine accesories, i would avoid Ebay and most of the other parts stores, as their quality can be questionable. I received several dead alternators from Checker autoparts once before i finally just went and got a factory rebuilt unit for my old Landcruiser.

I check the code and it is the same code 25.
25 - Air-fuel ratio lean malfunction
How to check the AFM?
Can I clean it with those spay selling at store?
