Saved $650 on Air Suspension
Gang,
I just replaced a brand new left front AS few months ago. I brought two used AS for the rear $100 both. Few days ago, my front right gave up. The rate of lost was very fast. I said "oh no, not again" After i drove the car for a while, the car was level again. After i turn off the engine. I heard a sound from the front right AS. I opened the cap and do more investigation on it. I found the black gasket on top of the shock was leaking. The gasket is about 1.5" ID and 2.0" OD.
I let the car rest on a night. I went to a bicycle shop and got a tube repair kit. I cleaned the gasket surface and glue the patch into the gasket. After 24 hours, WOW. Its fixed. I saved $650 on an AS.
After 4 AS shock went out. I am getting more experience with it. If your AS is acting funny. I would do a full inspection on. Most of the time be the gasket.
This what i conclude in most cases:
1. Upper gasket: Test: open the AS cap and the electronic connection, turn on the car and let it run for 10 minutes. Turn off the engine and put some water on top of the gasket and check for bubbles. No bubble, problem is some where else. Bubbles, get the glue.
2. Inlet Gasket: This is the connect from the pump to the AS. Its located in the engine bay. Try to tighten it. If it fails, get a proper size gasket and try it again.
If your AS leak oil. Get a new one.

Thanks for the informative post.
U said after 24 hours, the AS is fixed.
That is after you applied the glue, the car cannot be driven for 24 hours. Is that right?
By the way where U get the front air shook the $650.00?

I have a 94 that makes a sound like the front air dam is draging when I hit bumps but only first thing in the morning. I also just notice one of my front air shocks has a bunch of oil around the bottom of it. I guess it is shot and am wondering how hard they are to replace????
