1997 won't crank
Hi,
I have been fighting with this 97 LS400 for nearly 2 years now (how sad is that?)
Here is my original thread on the issue:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...d-spark-2.html
I pulled the ECM to take a look at it and everything looks great on the caps. None had puked their guts all over the circuit boards. I am going to send it off to get the caps replaced anyway.
However, before I did that since everything was looking good I figured I'd have another crack at it. Put the ECM back in, hooked the battery back up and.... it won't turn over. I can hear what I think is the starter relay clicking that is in the main underhood fuse box. I tried locking and unlocking the doors with the key and with the key fob, but that didn't help.
Battery is fully charged, it has been sitting on a DieHard battery maintainer and I also tried charging it with my Optima digital charger and both said it was fully charged.
I looked through all the fuses and didn't see any that were blown and I checked the starter fuse with a voltmeter to verify it was good. Since I think I hear the relay clicking I am assuming that is good.
Anyone have any thoughts as to what might be stopping it from starting at this point or even the starting curcuit wiring diagram?
Thanks,
Douglas

I would do a compression test when possible.
If you didn't unlock the car before disconnecting the battery then the security system is not grounding the starter relay. Not sure about the 97's, there is a procedure to do I think its lock and unlock with the key a few times I don't remember.
In the beginning you said you had spark, and it was flooded. When doing the comp test have all the plugs out and resting on the valve covers plugged up and look for spark. If you have good compression and spark then you will need to check for an injector signal and fuel pressure.
This time your going to get it going you and it had a 2 year rest.

It sounded like a lack of it in the video.
Something else that can cause over rich and flooding is a leaky cold start valve. Are you sure you didn't disconnect something like a cam sensor when removing the PS pump?
And something to remember it is a high time engine. I wonder when the last time was the valves were adjusted, or is that not necessary on Gen 2 stuff?
