Anyone have a rought estimate on how much the steering pump will cost?
Did the strut rod bushings today and noticed how much my car is leaking! It needs valve covers and the power steering pump. I plan on starting with the VCG then moving onto the power steering but I don't want to DIY it I am stuck using either a friends garage or my family and I think that it will take way too long to fix the P/S pump.
What options do I have? Can I buy a refurb and use mine as a core? I just don't want to mess with it because I am afraid I will mess something up. Need to get some estimates on Monday.
Thanks all!

I assume it's a '98 since that's what in his user name. Like PD, I got a re-man A-1 Cardone pump (for my '97) from RockAuto for $190; return your old one to get your core fee back.

I think I'm going to clean everything as best as I can then check back in a week and see where its coming from. Its super oily under there so VCG are first. I'll probably pay to have them done but I'll get some quotes first. I did them on the 4.4 on my bmw but it was very easy. This engine looks tougher

P/S pump/high pressure line replacement on these cars is fairly easy. A friend and I knocked it out in around four hours (7 if you count how much time we spent talking and going to the parts store) and I personally have little mechanical know-how. My leak was coming from the bottom of the pump itself.
Here was my thread on it:

some folks on here procrastinated (like me for instance ), and got to fix the PS leak AND buy a new alternator (the PS fluid is dumping right on to the alternator and will soon ruin it)

Thx for the link and info guys! Estimate in labor is 272 for ps pump and 200 for vcg. Since I'm not gonna try to reseal I'll get a rockauto one and swap. That part seems pretty easy and the tutorial will def help!
Oh and dealer ticket from 2011 said ps pump needs reseal and rack seeping a little
This may be a new years eve weekend thing. Get it all fixed then go party!

This same sheet has a quote for $650 for valve cover gaskets!
