Default CD player recommendation needed

I have a 1996 LS base model - it has a cassette player (yikes!) - I need to get a nice CD player but would like to keep the looks and wiring as close to factory as possible, what current CD player looks good and installs nice enough to look like it came with the car?

something that is not a huge project to install - the factory speakers are fine with me.

need recommended models or even post a pic if you have a cool CD player that has a look that blends well with the original interior and doesn't look aftermarket - thanks!

Do you have Nakamichi or Pioneer? Pioneer system can fully function with harness or custom wiring and aftermarket head unit. Nakamichi can't. Double din is the size and you are going to need the plastic trim kit.

Couple of ideas. This and this.

Edit: Fixed other link.

wait, you have a '96 LS400 without a CD changer above the glovebox?

so what's in the space where it would normally go? Post a pic? And of your headunit please.

I know it was an option, but i've never seen a '95-00 LS w/o the CD changer. and i've seen them without sunroofs

i'm curious as to what part number your amp is, i'm guessing it just uses the standard pioneer amp which means you could go buy a cd changer from a junked car and the bit of harness you need to plug into the amp.

It says Lexus Premium Sound System is the brand - lol

and yes, mine does not have a sunroof (I hate sunroofs, they make the car louder inside and they leak when they get old!)

there is no branding of Pioneer or Nakamichi on head unit

head unit is cassette only

there is no CD player or changer, it never had one that I know of.

the only number is P1707 on the cassette door

a quick web search revealed this original head unit appears to be a Pioneer model# KEX-8156ZT

Toyota p/n 86120-50360

"Lexus Premium Sound" = Pioneer for the LS400. the nak systems are clearly labelled.

the part number listed is the standard pioneer system for that generation, please take a pic and tell me what's here:

that's the door above the glovebox. You may want to pull it apart and see if the wiring harness for the changer is still in there (i'm betting it is). if it is all you need is a '95-97 OEM cd changer.

No easter egg - just an extra little small items compartment where the changer should be, no wiring or connectors either.

this reminds me of the old days of my 1967 Camaro with the "Heater Delete" option - very strange!

There is a car stereo thread on here with the Pioneer wiring diagram. You can hook up the factory amp as long have a head unit with a sub out.

i'm betting the amp is still the standard unit, pull it out from under the passenger seat and post the part no.?

If it is i'd just find a junked car and pull the harness+cd changer and run that. can't beat OEM if you want it to look factory lol.

Crutchfield should be the highest price you can find on this stereo - so wondering why I can't seem to find it for substantially less??

you said you wanted "factory" looking lol.

I believe you need a headunit with 3 sets of preamp outputs to have full adjustability (1x each front, rear, sub). the HU you showed has only 2 (front and rear/sub (pick one) )

i have the exact same headunit (pioneer) and i have a CD changer. do as PD stated and get the harness and CD changer from a junked car and you have a stock system with a CD changer.

an aftermarket headunit will sound TONS better, even if it's a single CD DIN. this option is easier, and would resolve your situation faster.

I would like to find systems that will have sufficient pre-outs, as PD advised - any head unit recommendations?

I am thinking
this one this one
or else
this one this one
