Default Celsior/LS400 Questions and help please!

Hi, I recently purchased a 1996 toyota celsior class c with air ride suspension and all the goodies. Was just looking for more info on these vehicles like whats the most common problems they have and issues similar to that? I've heard that the air ride suspension is no good, but I'm planning on doing a build on this vehicle and I really like the idea of being able to raise and lower the car by a controller. So is there any conversions out there that still involve air bags instead of coil overs? Any info helps Thanks

Good buy dude. Im in alberta and have a junction produce wide body celsior. Yes LS400 kits and lips will fit a celsior. As far as air suspension you can go full aftermarket or just get a controller for the factory suspension. I have a controller on mine and it works fine, the factory stuff is pretty soft and is painfully slow going up and down but its a good way to be low while you save for aftermarket air. Mine will tuck 19's with the controller but ill be going aftermarket when i have the cash.

same year stuff will fit (ie for you, '95-97 only will interchange).

you can use a controller but you will destroy the bags very quickly.

I hope you didn't purchase an imported celsior from japan or canada, its not legally able to be federalized (NHTSA/EPA compliance) so it can be subject to seizure by customs or the NHTSA.

I did purchase one from Japan as I live in Canada and its fully legal here. Is there a different air bag suspension system I can use on my celsior? And would you know the brand and where to find it? Thanks

Oh sweet man can you send me some pics of your celsior would love to see it? My emails kozak-2006@hotmail.com. Also could you point me in the right direction for an aftermarket controller and where to find lip kits cant seem to find anything. And also are the controllers easy to install? That would be awesome. Thanks

ah your location said Montana before, hence my confusion lol.

any other bag systems will be aftermarket, and not cheap. Airrunner is the benchmark, but very, very expensive. Many members have had success with UniversalAir suspension, both over normal shocks (usually KYB) and adapting it to coilovers (ala Megan, BC, etc)

I recently purchased a 1996 toyota celsior, whats the most common problems they have
the most common problems on 1996 Celsior (LS400)

failure or leakage in the ECU capacitors
motor mounts break, especially rear one (transmission mount)
lower EGR pipe breaks
Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) bearings seize
power steering leaks from multiple places
premature alternator failure caused by aforementioned power steering leaks
various suspension bushings wear out fairly young
upper control arms wear out fairly young
cigarette lighter socket tiny fuse link
positive battery terminal (easily replaceable)

any other common ones that anyone could add?

I ran the factory bags with a datasystem for two years on my Celsior and never had a problem. I only ran it low around town not on the highway. It came with a datasystem already installed. My Celsior had all the goodies to. Great car. Congrats on the car, wish I still had mine.

Hey would anybody know if a power steering pump for an American LS400 will fit a Japanese Celsior?
