Default whats mine worth

I have a 2000 ls 400 platinum, it has 151000 miles and overall is in very good shape for a 13 year old car. Had a car fax ran when i bought it, was rearended back in 02. I had the timing belt and water pump changed at around 125000. The tilt wheel doesnt tilt anymore, and check engine light is on with bank 1 catalytic code. I replaced the cat but the code came back on a few weeks later. I was just wonder what you guys thought i might be able to get out of it.

Thanks

thats one of those thats worth what someone is willing to pay. kbb would put it around 8,000 but with the engine check light on, and depending on what it looks like in person, I'd say like 5 or 6000 would be all I'd pay

Without knowing the condition of the interior, body/paint and other parts of the car, determining a value is difficult. The warning lights are a

What code on the cats? Cats don't typically die unless they get a bunch of unburned fuel run through them. If you replaced the cat, you need to go upstream to the EFI/fuel system and make sure it is getting proper fuel mixture and burning. O2 sensors are a maintenance schedule at about 100-125K miles. Depending what fuel you use, this may also contribute to the problem. Change the O2 sensors out, clear the code and see if your cat/s are still good.

Kbb doesn't sell cars nor do they buy cars. When doing research on their site I pulled this info:
VEHICLE VALUATIONS ARE OPINIONS AND MAY VARY FROM VEHICLE TO VEHICLE. ACTUAL VALUATIONS ARE BASED UPON CURRENT AVAILABLE INFORMATION AND ANALYSIS OF MARKET CONDITIONS, AND WILL VARY DEPENDING ON SPECIFICATIONS, VEHICLE CONDITION OR OTHER PARTICULAR CIRCUMSTANCES PERTINENT TO A PARTICULAR VEHICLE OR THE TRANSACTION OR THE PARTIES TO THE TRANSACTION. KBB ASSUMES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ACCURACY OF VEHICLE VALUES AND NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ERRORS OR OMISSIONS. Like I have said in previous thread I work in the wholesale business and no one uses kbb. Your vehicle is worth what is available in the market place in the condition that is comparable to others in the market place....

Btw the CEO of kbb sells his cars at Carmax... That's pretty interesting especially to anyone that has been to CarMax and has sold a vehicle there.

i recently bought a tacoma and found out how the KBB system actually works and i am in agreement with you hotdawwg. the market value of the truck was way beyond what KBB said, in the thousands over! so it does really depend on the market value, of course condition, and what people are willing to pay. high demand = higher value.

and for carmax, sold my nissan titan to them as a last resort, though it was not a bad experience, they gave me $4000 less than KBB, and my truck was in decent shape!

to the OP, the car would probably sell for much less than $5k as you will most likely be selling to a mechanic to bring the car back up into shape. any check engine lights and a rear end collision are red flags.

Your catalytic converter code 420 or 430 mostly likely came back because of the cat you used to replace it. You need to use a cat that is rated for this car. I dealt with the same issue. Cheap cats don't have enough precious metals and the code will come back shortly after. If you can, go back to the shop and have them put on a cat that is rated to work for your car. Also, see my link below.

I think you could get 6,500 - 7,500 with the minor issues resolved.

My 2000 LS400 is at 158,000 miles, I've owned it since 2003 / 38,000 miles, looks and drives like it just rolled off the showroom floor, zero problems, always garaged, perfect chrome Platinum wheels, perfect service history. It might bring $6,000 to $7,000 here but will likely donate it to a nonprofit when it is time to move on which will be fairly soon.
