Default Heater quit, only cold air from AC!

My heater seems to have gone on strike, and the only thing that comes out of the vents is cold air from the AC. Even when I set the temp to 85*.

I checked fuses and circuit breakers.

Any ideas, suggestions, trouble shooting tips?

John

I'll bet it's a faulty heater control valve.
Usually located on the firewall.

look on the firewall passengers side under the hood. You will see the water valve,It has a cable that operates it.sometimes the cable comes off.If it is not off take it off and move the valve lever as far as it will move,if you then get heat,There is something wrong with the cable actuator. If so I would take it to a repair shop.Good luck.

Thanks for the tips. But here is the bad news on that valve. The cable is intact, but doesn't move, and when I detach it and move the valve arm myself, still no heat. Also, the hose leading from the valve into the firewall doesn't get as hot at the hose leading into the valve from the engine. I ordered a shop manual.

It's your HEATER CORE then. Major job to do because I think the dash has to be removed to change it and it's EXPENSIVE! Can't get to it from under the hood near the firewall.
