clear those codes, drive the car, rescan, post codes that recur along with year, make and model

which codes came back? - all of them?

if it keeps indicating cylinders 3 & 5 then it will fairly easy to figure out, either related to fuel or ignition or engine issue in those cylinders

most likely suspects:

distributor caps
injectors

the problem will definitely be one of the following:

Ignition System
Injector
Fuel Line Pressure
EGR
Compression
Valve clearance
Valve timing
MAF meter
Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor (ECTS)
ECU Capacitors

why not start with replacing dist. caps & rotors, ECTS, and ECU capacitors, in that order, as these are three common problem areas in a 96 LS and use genuine Toyota parts for ECTS and distributor caps & rotors

how does it run at idle? - how does it run getting on the gas?

could you post results of compression test for each cylinder please?

if you did the compression test correctly, and you truly have no compression in cylinder 1, then you have major engine issues, i.e. a bent valve or a hole in the piston etc. - there is no low cost fix for these kind of problems, you are looking at big money, as no small problem can cause complete loss of compression in a cylinder.

how confident are you in your compression testing tools and ability?

did you recently have any work done on the car? when was the last time the timing belt was changed and what's your current mileage?

bent valve? thats what scares me... but if there was a bent valve wouldnt all the other valve would be bent as well with it? maybe i should just stop driving the car far huh?

you should not drive it AT ALL until you get to the bottom of this

190k and timing belt was changed last week
uh-oh - did these codes and rough running pop up right after that? - an incorrectly installed timing belt can DEFINITELY bend one or more valves

if so - the person who installed the timing belt may well owe you an engine

yeah since the LS is an interference motor, if the belt was installed incorrectly or slipped a tooth you can RUIN the heads and pistons.

if they were a shady shop they may have messed up then reinstalled the belt in the correct position.
