Default 1999 ls400

New owner of a 1999 LS400 w/ 88,000 miles. Car has cleaned up real nice especially inside,
leather after a woolite bath looks great for a 13 yr old car. Have changed oil and filter (I am a big
mobil 1 fan), my work car a 2004 nissan sentra has 249,000 miles and still runs great is a testament to synthetic oil. A new cabin filter and air filter and new NGK plugs have the car running
great. 25 mpg on 2 tanks of regular gas is mindboggling, my sentra gets 31 with a 4cyl. Also
replaced gas charged hood lifters ($20 ea on amazon) getting ready for big time maintenance.
My question for all you veterans out there is this: how much longer can I wait to do the timing belt\
water pump ?

welcome and don't forget to use the stickies/FAQ, where you will find that the recommended interval for the TB/WP is at 90k.

my car's previous owner failed to do it, so i ended up doing it at 131k. the belt had cracks but would probably have lasted to 150k. i would not risk it as our motors 95-up are interference. it also depends on climate, so stick to the factory recommendation and plan to change it all out soon! there are DIY threads on here to help you, if you are mechanically inclined. welcome!

Within the next 15K miles would be smart. I have never heard of anyone breaking a timing belt until really going well over the recommended 90K intervals.
