Default Ls400 power steering issues

Purchased car knowing power steering leaked---put new ps pump and still leaked and made noise when turning especially after a warm-up period----replaced the vacuum solenoid on pump with no luck----removed solenoid on rack and cleaned filter which was very dirty---seem to help for a while---now back to leaking again and making noise----hard to tell where fluid is leaking, but i suspect the reservoir cap with fluid backing up---i do notice alot of foaming when i open the cap (that might be normal)----that was the background---here are the questions----are the two vacuum lines going to the solenoid matter which hose to which nipple-----does anyone know the size of the o-ring on reservoir---what is the level cold or hot of fluid---my measurement stem is broken. Also" any suggestions"

You need to bleed the system when you do this kind of work. Personally, I would flush it with new Dextron III and add a bottle of Lucal Oil PS conditioner. With the front end off the ground, engine running, remove the reservoir cap and turn the the steering wheel from lock to lock 10 to 20 times. This will force the air out of the system. Add more fluid if necessary.

Allso gotta get that cap fixed. Best way to kill that power steering pump is to over fill it.

Full when warm is about 1/4 - 1/2 inch below the top of the reservoir. It should never be overflowing.

Make sure the hose from the reservoir to the pump is not leaking. I replaced my pump a second time thinking the pump was bad again but as soon as I was filling the system it leaked like a sieve.

usually in that case it's the high pressure hose spewing fluid, the rack is too low.

Sounds like it's the high pressure line. Mine went out a few years ago.

I do have a nice power steering pump rebuild kit for sale if anyone needs one.

"are the two vacuum lines going to the solenoid matter which hose to which nipple" - does not matter

Also, I would recommend cleaning the solenoid filter again. Chances are it had never been done before you did it. After doing it, things got flowing again better, and more stuff may have clogged it again. When I first got my car, the first time I did it (first time it was ever done), it was extremely clogged. A year or so later, it was a little clogged. Checking periodically after that, it has been pretty much clear.
