Okay, this is what happened to my dad's 98. He called me in a panic much for the same reasons lol.

Do you have the Lexus cellular phone hooked up to your car, even if you don't use it? If the phone is activated then it will mute the audio and you'll only hear it when the volume is all the way up, very faintly. On his he had bumped the paddle on the steering wheel and activated the phone. Try unhooking the wire from the reciever and then restart the car, post back.

If you don't have the phone it sounds like its still the phone mute since every Lexus is wired for the phones.

I have the same problem with my '91 LS, but it's only on occasion right after I wash my car. I'm guessing that the water leaks into some area where it interferes with the connection to the radio/speakers, because after a few hours or so of drying, everything starts to work fine again.

Default Muted Volume

Maybe the Northeaster we are having today in Boston is cause. Car was parked outside for an hour or so. Wind was blowing rain vertically. Thank you for your replies Brian and SwoE3es.Hopefully volume will return after car dries. Bizzarre that moisture would cause volume reduction. Never did after car wash. Must be wind delivered water to normally secure location. I dont have a cell phone attached and i can hear tapes and or radio---- but very muted.

Default Sound Drops

Hi,
I found that many of the trunks leak water in around the edges and that drops usually straight down above where the CD Changer and amp are located. The amp being located under the CD changer seems to get the worst of it. If it is a Pioneer or Nakamichi it is repairable at our facility. Cost is less for Pioneer than the Nakamichi but still less than replacement. Contact me via the Web Site: www.lajollaaudiorepair.com

Default No Bad Amp

now it turns out amp was not bad. i ordered a remanufactured one from lex dealer(don't know who they get it from)for $300 plugged it in and still the same problem. In their diagnostic report they say receiver fine and it bad amp. So they take back unit and grudingly refunded my $300 although they wanted to charge me $50 because i was going to install myself rather than pay them $95 per hour for installation which only entails 2 screws and 2 nuts and plugging in. So now what???

Yup...Cleeve is correct. I checked it out myself after a car wash and found a water leak on the right side of the trunk door which leaks directly in front of the cd changer. Just need to find out how to stop the water from leaking through the trunk and the problem will be solved, hopefully.

Default The Latest in sound

Took back to lex today for another check to see what was wrong . after 11/2 hours the sevice mgr. come out and say it was bad amp and that i prob didn't hook up replacement unit properly they would install replacement unit that i had returned that they had not returned to rehab company(new unit was around $800 but the rehab unit was only 300. Service mgr said they only charge me $75 to install even tho it took tech an hour and a half he say. Make long story short , it cost me 390 with tax. i leave dealer and radio work fine. Took from 7:30am till 11:30 am. i get home and pull unit from under passenger seat. it take me 5 Min . i pro now. guess what ? it is my original unit. i get screwed. but wait . i think something funny beforehand and take digital picture of my unit before i let them work on it. Part number and serial number show up good on picture . it not same number as they put on receipt. i call attourney general office and stop payment. i be suing them for fraud now. my only regret is i still don't know what was wrong with system. i confront service mgr. but he bald face liar and of course refuse to admit his guilt.
